Reaves-Harris

FORMER STATE REPRESENTATIVE

PAMELA REAVES-HARRIS

I am not someone who comes from money nor a powerful politically connected family. I was raised in Chicago’s Cabrini Green Housing Authority and graduated from Cooley Vocational High School. At a very early age, I was determined to reach beyond my surroundings and understood that to do so would require hard work and commitment.

While in High school, I participated in a program called Upward Bound at the University of Illinois at Chicago Circle Campus (“UICC”). The Upward Bound program allowed me to attend entry level college courses, earning high school credits, while acclimating myself to the college environment.  The Upward Bound program gave me the opportunity to excel beyond my surroundings, graduating from high school in three (3) years and attending one of the best institutions in this country, UICC. I graduated from UICC, receiving a Bachelors of Science majoring in both economics and marketing. As a young mother of two daughters, I went on to earn my JD from Chicago-Kent College of Law, earning honors on the Dean’s List and Moot Court Society.

I began my legal career by clerking for the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation and at the age of 34 had worked my way up to become the Assistant Vice-President for Citibank. Upon leaving Citibank, I became a solo practitioner while simultaneously working as an Administrative Law Judge (“ALJ”) for several municipalities.

As a solo practitioner, I routinely offered free legal advice to the constituents of my community and as an ALJ, I spent over 20 years interpreting and applying the law in a fair and impartial manner. Serving as an ALJ allowed me to develop the judicial temperament necessary to serve as a Circuit Court Judge, treating each Respondent with compassion, patience, respect, dignity and due process under the law..

Throughout my career I have demonstrated a proven track record of public service. In 2015, when my community needed me most, I stepped up to run and won a seat in the Illinois General Assembly, becoming the State Representative for the 10th District. As the State Representative, I fought for my community, passing legislation that was not only beneficial to my constituents but to the State of Illinois in general. I continue to strongly feel the need to serve and that is why I am running for Judge.
